AAUW advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education and research. AAUW is California’s most active and diverse organization for women offering action for equity, personal and professional growth, community leadership and friendships. The purpose of the AAUW-Concord Branch is to unite graduates of regionally accredited educational institutions in order to promote equity, education, intellectual growth, individual worth, and development of opportunities for women and girls.
The Concord Branch promotes the mission of the National Association and the State Organization of breaking through barriers for women and girls. AAUW Concord supports two very worthwhile educational foundations — AAUW Funds and its own Concord Education Foundation (CEF) where local scholarships are awarded to women transferring from Diablo Valley College (DVC) and Los Medanos College (LMC) to a four-year college or university as a junior. The Concord Branch also provided full scholarships to the California AAUW Tech Trek Program that sends junior high girls to a week’s science and math camp at a college campus. The Concord Branch’s key fund raising event is staffing a concession stand at San Francisco 49ers football games. The Branch currently has over 60 members and is actively recruiting new persons interested in furthering equity for women through advocacy, education and research.
