Concord Education Foundation Scholarships. The Concord Branch of AAUW annually offers scholarships of $1000 each to women transferring from our local community colleges, Diablo Valley or Los Medanos Colleges, to a four-year college or university. Award recipients are invited to be recognized for their achievements at the AAUW-Concord Awards Luncheon in May, and award money is available for the following fall semester.
Applications are available through the financial aid offices at Diablo Valley College and Los Medanos College.
History of the Concord Education Foundation (CEF)
AAUW-Concord has, from its earliest years, supported a two-fold scholarship program–local undergraduate scholarships and graduate fellowships. Our branch members have always felt that both undergraduate scholarships and post-graduate work have equal importance. Branch members donate to both the Concord Education Foundation (CEF) to support our local scholarship program and to AAUW Funds to support the national fellowships program.
In an effort to make our local undergraduate scholarship contributions tax-deductible like those to AAUW Funds, steps toward the establishment of a non-profit foundation to support our local scholarships were started in 1982. National approval was given in 1983. The Concord University Women’s Education Foundation (CUWEF or CEF) was established in 1985, and became an IRS 501(c) exempt organization in 1987.
Funds for the support of AAUW Funds and CEF have come from member donations, entertainment book sales (which offers discounts on food, travel, etc.), and staffing a concession stand at the San Francisco 49ers home games and for nine years the annual Art & Wine (and Beer!) Walk in downtown Concord – in 2022 rebranded as the Concord Crawl.
Would you like to get involved in these scholarship programs? There are various rewarding volunteer opportunities.
